cant do anything in the app unless you pay for a subscription even though it says theres a free option

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback, Giovanny. New users start with a free trial to explore the full app. The trial can be cancelled at any time with no charge, and you can then continue using the free version. The free experience focuses on following scores and other bowlers, while Pro unlocks tracking and deeper insights.

Used to love it. This update was the worst thing they could've done. Locked everything behind a paywall. Used to be able to add games, see your average, etc and now you can't do literally anything unless you fork over money. Money hungry developers I guess. Won't ever use the app again now unfortunately.

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback, Trevor. We understand this change can feel frustrating, especially if you’ve been using the app for a long time. The change was made to sustainably maintain and improve the platform over time. There is still a free experience to follow other bowlers, while Pro is for those who want full tracking and deeper insights.

Everything in this app is behind a paywall. I'm just gonna use pen and paper. would not recommend to a bowler starting on a budget.

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback, Zach. We understand the experience can feel limited without a subscription. We still offer a free option to follow scores and other bowlers, while Pro is designed for those who want to track their own games and get deeper insights.

It is no longer free. Was a good app to use in general at the alley. Especially to see how you improve. Now you get access to no interface other than a button to start a subscription.

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback. Existing users can still continue using the free version. New users start with a free trial to explore the full app, but it can be cancelled anytime during the trial with no charge, and you can continue using the free version afterward.

Can't add your own game scores for free anymore, moved the feature behind a pay wall.

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback. Tracking and saving your own games is now part of Pro, as it relies on infrastructure with ongoing costs to maintain. Free users can still follow scores and other bowlers in participating centers.

Horrible. I stopped using it for a bit and when I came back, I could only use it if I paid for it. not worth it any more, and it completely ruined the app. Bowling isn't cheap, and doing stuff like this will drive people away from the sport. Disappointing.

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback, Nathan. We understand the frustration, especially coming back to the app after some time. The change allows us to maintain and continue improving the platform long-term. There's still a free experience to follow scores, while Pro is for those who want full tracking and deeper insights.

Highly disappointed that live tracking is not available unless you go with Pro version. And definitely can't believe you have to pay for manual scoring- sad!

Developer response

Hi Susan, thanks for your updated feedback. We understand this change can feel disappointing. Live tracking and manual scoring are part of Pro as they rely on infrastructure with ongoing costs to maintain and operate. Free users can still follow scores in participating centers. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

Mar 18, 2026

what a joke! used to be a great app now you put everything behind pay wall? what a scam. would not recommend to anyone

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback, Katie. We understand this change can be frustrating. Our goal is to keep improving and maintaining the platform long-term, and that requires a sustainable model. We still offer a free option to follow bowlers, while Pro unlocks tracking and deeper insights.

Mar 17, 2026

horrible update where you have to pay to do anything.

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback, Kyle. We understand the experience can feel more limited without a subscription. The change was made to sustainably maintain and improve the app over time. We still offer a free option to follow bowlers, while Pro unlocks tracking and deeper insights.

Mar 16, 2026

everything is now locked behind a subscription paywall. At least leave the manual scoring open to users for free

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback, Autumn. We understand the experience feels more limited without a subscription. Manual scoring are part of Pro as it rely on the same infrastructure as our automated tracking, with ongoing costs to maintain. We’ve shared your feedback with our product team as we continue improving the app.

Tried to set up an account, but it forces you to try the free trial, which I have absolutely zero interest in, and without signing up for the trial, you can't even move forward through the app. complete and utter waste of time.

Can't do anything unless you pay.

I have to pay to track open bowling scores now? No thanks.

Feb 27, 2026

was good on release then shoved every aspect behind a pay wall

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback, Kyle. We understand that the experience feels different compared to earlier versions. To sustainably maintain automatic tracking, stats and integrations, tracking your own games are now part of Pro. Free users can still follow scores and other bowlers. We appreciate you having used the app.

Feb 26, 2026

At the moment, you're unable to access any of the features without signing up for the pro free trial. When signing up, it won't let you progress to just track your scores without doing so.

Developer response

Thanks for your feedback. Pro is required to track your own scores. New users start with a free trial to explore the app’s full functionality. After the trial, you can choose to continue with Pro or use the free version to follow other bowlers. We understand this setup isn’t for everyone, but it allows us to sustainably maintain the service.

Rachel Evans
Feb 23, 2026

used to love this app before they put everything behind a pay wall. if you are forced to pay for basic functionality, there are better apps available

Developer response

Hi Rachel, we understand it feels different compared to how the app worked before. Over time we’ve focused on making Pro the core experience so we can sustainably maintain and improve the platform. We know subscriptions aren’t for everyone, and we appreciate you sharing your perspective.

Really good app when having pro, unfortunately from even a year ago it's lost many features I enjoyed, practically unusable without pro

Developer response

We understand the experience is more limited as a free user compared to before. We moved personal tracking and stats to Pro so we can continue developing and maintaining the platform long-term. We know that won’t suit everyone, but we appreciate the feedback.

Kyle Heath
Feb 21, 2026

Was great for the limited free features but then they locked everything behind a pay wall. Just put ads here and there like every other app. Small discount for USBC membership? Come on. I love how every response from the company is "well it costs us money to do this". Yeah, but now it's going to cost you most of your user base.

Developer response

Hi Kyle, we understand not everyone wants to pay for an app. We moved features to Pro to sustainably continue offering the tracking and insights many bowlers rely on. To keep developing and maintaining the platform, it needs to be supported by those who use it the most. We appreciate your feedback.

horrible app

can't skip the beginning video of "people rating the app" and then someone talking about the app every time you open the app. once that's finished it hits you with an immediate paywall. no thank you.

Developer response

Hi Taylor, the intro sequence is part of the first-time onboarding to explain the app. New users start with a 1-month free trial to experience the full functionality. You can cancel anytime during the trial to continue as a free user after the trial, without being charged.

Developer response

Hi David, we’re not entirely sure what you mean here, but it sounds like something may not be working as expected. Could you please reach out to [email protected] with a bit more detail? We’ll be happy to look into it and help resolve the issue.

Can no longer add games without paying 7.99/mo. I've used the free version when you could add/track games as well as the paid version. It's not worth the current subscription price. Consider adding a 2.99 plan just for adding tracking games. Some folks don't need the extra bells and whistles.

Developer response

Hi Andrew. Adding and tracking your own games is part of Pro, which helps us maintain the platform and continue improving it. We understand it may not feel worth it for everyone, and appreciate you giving LaneTalk a try and sharing your thoughts.

Miles Dodd
Feb 13, 2026

used to be a great app. now it's just a money grab thanks ruining it

Developer response

Thanks for sharing your feedback and for having used the app. The move to Pro wasn’t about a “money grab,” but about keeping the platform running long-term. LaneTalk is built around automated tracking and detailed stats, which require continuous development and maintenance. That’s what the subscription supports.

Mike Riedel
Feb 6, 2026

Having to pay is just absurd, and at $50 a year! Gimme a freaking break. I'm done with the app. Darn shame.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback, Mike. We understand the price won’t feel right for everyone. For those who use LaneTalk regularly, yearly plans start from $39.99 and help support the automated tracking and insights the app is built around. We respect your decision and appreciate that you gave the app a try.

Jeff H
Feb 4, 2026

won't let me use the free addition. keeps asking for a credit card. I don't even want the free trial. just want to track my sons scores

Developer response

Hi Jeff. Pro is required to claim and track your own games, but you don’t need a subscription just to view other bowlers’ scores where public live scoring is available. New users start with a free trial to explore the app, which can be cancelled anytime without charge. We understand this setup isn’t right for everyone.

Feb 3, 2026

I was using the app a lot last year during the summer but took a break during the winter, but now that the holidays are over, I went back to my usual bowling alley and saw that there was a update and updated .... horrible mistake. Can't use the app and do the manual scorekeeping, all the features are locked behind a subscription! So disappointing!! Uninstalling and would not recommend this app anymore

Developer response

Thanks for sharing your experience. We understand the update was disappointing if you have been using the free version. LaneTalk is built around automated tracking and deeper insights, which is costly to run. To keep the platform sustainable long-term, tracking your own games is now part of Pro. We understand that this won’t fit everyone.

Mad Man
Feb 2, 2026

100% subscription based now

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. LaneTalk is now primarily subscription-based for tracking your own games and stats, so we can keep the platform sustainable long-term. We understand this change isn’t for everyone and appreciate you sharing your view.

Can't do anything without signing up for free trial. sorry, ain't doin that. give me the chance to check it out first....then I'll decide if I want more.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. New users start with a free trial so you can experience all features before deciding. You can cancel anytime during the trial with no charge and continue as a free user afterward. We understand this approach isn’t for everyone and appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Mark Clabburn
Jan 31, 2026

I can understand they need to fund the live tracking so you need to pay for that, but they get 1* for putting manual scoring behind the pay wall too, why?

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. LaneTalk is built around automated tracking and long-term performance analysis. To keep the experience simple and consistent, tracking your own games - whether automatic or manual - is part of Pro. We understand this won’t suit everyone and appreciate you sharing your view.

Hiding every useful feature behind a paywall is scummy behavior. Will be uninstalling.

Developer response

Thanks for sharing your feedback. LaneTalk is built around automated score tracking and deeper insights, which require ongoing resources to maintain. We understand this model won’t be right for everyone, and we appreciate you having tried the app and sharing your perspective.

Developer response

Hello Rol, sorry to hear that you experience issues when you are trying to setup your subscription. Please reach out to [email protected] and we are happy to hear more details so that we can help you to set it up. It's common that users have several accounts that will create issues with the subscription setup. Hope to hear from you soon, thanks!

Jan 27, 2026

Unfortunately this app requires you to subscribe to even browse the app itself. I can't even make an informed decision about features or usability without entering a "free trial". I'd really like to be able to navigate the app and interact with the interface (not even functionally use it) before commiting to a trial or subscription. *Edit* (Rep) I understand the intent is a user signs up for a "free-trial" and has full-funtionality. For me personally, this is poor UX design and a huge turn-off.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. New users start with a free trial so they can experience the app’s full functionality before deciding. The trial can be cancelled at any time, and no charge is made if you cancel. After that, you can continue as a free user if you choose.

Only used this app to view friend's bowling scores as they bowled so with that behind a paywall with all the other stuff I did not want, I guess I can just go back to texting for score updates and save room on my phone for better apps. Edit: The serious bowlers I know already track all their stats without this app and have for years. It's not worth the money.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. LaneTalk is primarily built for bowlers who want to track and improve their own game. Automated, real-time scoring comes with ongoing costs, which is why those features are part of Pro. We understand it may not be the right fit if you only want to follow friends occasionally.

matthew bryant
Jan 24, 2026

App used to be great, could easily keep up with games for bragging rights with friends, but now after this new update you must pay a subscription to look at anything worth looking at. Who needs an app for "live tracking" when every bowling center has scoring?

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. LaneTalk isn’t meant to replace a center’s scoring screens, but to give bowlers long-term tracking, insights, and comparisons across games, sessions, and centers. We understand that this isn’t valuable for everyone, and appreciate you sharing your perspective.

Chris Abele
Jan 23, 2026

A prime example of what Cory Doctorow coined "the enshitification of"... in this case apps. Free options move to the premium version. Now it's even removed everything from the free option. Guess I'll have a go at vibe coding and have it grab the score from pictures. It's a thing one can do with AI. Fremium or premium, a dying breed. Can't come soon enough.

Developer response

Thanks for sharing your perspective. LaneTalk is built around automated, real-time scoring and analysis, which comes with ongoing costs to operate and maintain. Free users can still follow other bowlers, while tracking your own games is part of Pro. We understand this model isn’t for everyone.

Jan 21, 2026

this is not the app that's going to make you rich and your money grap is desperate.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. LaneTalk isn’t about getting rich, but about keeping an automated scoring platform running long-term. Real-time tracking and stats come with real operating costs, and subscriptions help cover that. We understand it’s not for everyone.

George Johnson
Jan 21, 2026

You can't even get into the app before it forces a 7 day free trial or a payment on to you. At least let me see what the app offers.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. New users start with a free 1 month trial so they can explore all features before deciding. You can cancel anytime during the trial and won’t be charged, and still continue using LaneTalk as a free user afterward.

Basic scoring gone. Pay to play. Delete the app

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback, Nicholas. We understand the frustration with basic scoring moving to Pro. This change wasn’t made lightly, but was needed to keep LaneTalk reliable and sustainable long-term. We know this model won’t be right for everyone, and we appreciate you sharing your perspective.

I LOVE THE APP. I hate that they locked EVERYTHING under the paid version. so sad. it was great to give users a few games worth, live scores and then everything else was under paid version. so sad they did this.

Developer response

Thanks for sharing, Bryce. We’re really glad to hear you love the app. We understand it’s disappointing that personal game tracking moved to Pro. This wasn’t an easy decision, but it was necessary to keep LaneTalk reliable and sustainable long-term for the bowlers who use and value these features.

corbin esterak
Jan 17, 2026

was a great app but now cant do anything without a subscription thanks but no thanks

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback, Corbin. We understand the change isn’t for everyone. LaneTalk is built around automated, real-time score tracking and insights, which requires ongoing infrastructure and support. Subscriptions help keep those features available long-term for bowlers who value them.

Was great before to keep track of my spare conversion manually. Company took the free manual tracking away because they're greedy like everyone else.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. This change wasn’t about greed, but sustainability. LaneTalk is built around automated, real-time tracking, which requires ongoing infrastructure and support. To keep the platform running long-term, tracking your own games - manual or automatic - is now part of Pro. We understand this won’t suit everyone.

Jan 15, 2026

its pay to play now. was best app on market, quickly to the worst. everyone spoke to says they uninstalled or flat out stopped using. its a shame, they had market cornered then drove everyone away.

Developer response

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We understand this change has been disappointing for many long-time users. LaneTalk is built around automated, real-time score tracking, which comes with ongoing costs to operate and maintain. We know this model won’t be right for everyone, but it’s what allows the platform to continue long-term.

Jan 13, 2026

Downloaded it as a new bowler so I'm not fully committed to any kinds of pro packages. Log in screen won't even let you access the free features without signing up for the pro trial first, or if there is a way to get passed the pro sign up screen they're very good at hiding it. They don't want to help you. They just want your money. Immediate uninstall. No amount of PR or response from the company could even interest me in coming back. Utter failure and disgusting behavior.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. New users start with a free trial so they can experience all features before deciding. You can cancel anytime during the trial and continue as a free user without being charged. This setup helps us fairly show the app’s full value while keeping the platform sustainable, though we understand it won't fit everyone.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. LaneTalk is built around automated, real-time score tracking and insights, which comes with ongoing costs to run and maintain. That’s why personal game tracking is now part of Pro. We understand this won’t be the right fit for everyone and appreciate you sharing your view.

only allows pro, at $7.99 per month. it's a rip-off.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. In addition to the monthly option, we also offer a yearly subscription from $39.99, which is a significantly lower monthly cost. Whether that value makes sense depends on how often you bowl and use the app, but we wanted to clarify the available options.

The UI appears to be busted. Tried creating a free account, but I can't do anything until I upgrade to the pro version. It looks like there should be a way to continue with the free version, but there's nothing to click on that let's me do that. I think it's being covered up by the box saying to upgrade to pro That means I can't do anything on the app unless I give them my credit card information. I think I'm alright.

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. New users start with a Pro trial so they can experience the full app before deciding. After the trial ends, you can continue using LaneTalk as a free user. No charge is made if the trial is cancelled before trial end.

Eric Quinn
Jan 10, 2026

When this app first came out it was awesome as you could save your scores and review past games. After a year or so, nearly all of the features are now locked behind a pay wall. Our local bowling center has stopped suggesting this app due to the locked features. For pro level bowlers it would be great, but the average league bowler shouldn't waste their time.

Developer response

Thanks for sharing your perspective, Eric. LaneTalk is built around automated, real-time score tracking and deeper insights, which require ongoing resources to maintain. We understand this may not be a fit for everyone, but for bowlers who value tracking their own progress over time, Pro helps keep those features available long-term.

Thomas Ring (HotSauce15)

doesn't even let me do anything without having to start a subscription

Developer response

Thanks for the feedback. New users start with a free trial so they can experience all features before deciding. After that, you can continue using LaneTalk without subscribing to follow other bowlers - no charge at all if you cancel before trial end. Tracking your own games and stats is part of Pro to support the platform long-term.

Thanks for the feedback. LaneTalk is built around automated, real-time score tracking and insights, which requires ongoing resources to run. That’s why personal game tracking is now part of Pro. We understand this model isn’t a fit for everyone and appreciate that you used the app when these features were free.
