Best Nutrition App!

I’ve spent a few years trying out different food tracking apps, and they always leave me unsatisfied and wanting something else. I found Foodnoms a couple years ago and I stopped looking. It syncs perfectly with Apple Health, and the smart kitchen scale detection feels like magic. Can’t wait to see what new features come out next!

It’s the best

I’ve purchased plenty of diet apps over the years. This is by far the best one. I really like the recipe creator option. Takes the guess work out of a meal, with multiple ingredients and saves the information for me later when cooking it again. Basically, if there are meals you cook regularly, this option allows you to create a recipe, name it, add all the details from all ingredients and created serving sizes. It’s a process that takes a few minutes but you will only have to do one time. Recipes are saved for future use and ultimately save time and keep you from doing guess work. Great app! Well worth the 40 bucks per year.

Cross-platform compatibility

I recently switched to Foodnoms after a long time using a different food logging app. There are many things to like about FN, but my current favorite feature is its cross-platform compatibility. I can use it on my phone, tablet, or desktop computer, which makes it convenient for me to log meals regularly, regardless of what I'm doing at the moment.

Robust food tracker

Overall, this is good app. It’s not buggy and doesn’t crash. It allows a lot of flexibility in food and macro tracking. There are a few things that I’d like to see improved: 1. Add the ability to track exercise. Or at least the ability to enter calories burned and have it offer to deduct those calories from your daily total entered 2. Add the ability to scan nutrition info without having to dig through menus and add it as a new food. If I’m eating a packaged meal, a meal kit, or even eating a quick add via scan would be such an improvement

The Best App for Apple Health Integration

This app was built from the ground up to integrate with Apple Health, which is perfect for those of us who want our data to be available across any app instead of siloed into a single one. Data portability is important because food tracking apps can come and go, and many of them lock you into their ecosystem which oftentimes has broken integrations with other apps and hold your nutritional data hostage if you ever want to switch to a different one. This app provides a beautiful GUI that doesn’t look or feel bloated and doesn’t serve ads that distract from the experience. Its database of foods is top-notch and the AI tools, like barcode scanning, nutritional label scanning, and AI meal photo recognition are excellent. It also lets you describe your meal and the AI will figure out the nutritional data, which is super handy. I’ve found the database and AI to be very accurate so far. This app is very generous about the features you get for free compared to others. It also tracks intermittent fasting, caffeine, alcohol, and many other things that would normally be locked behind a subscription. Everything is packaged into a clean interface that made it crystal clear what your remaining calories are and the macro consumption, and has an insights view to dig deeper into trends and history. All the macro and micros get written to Apple Health where it’s immediately available to whatever other apps you have allowed to access it. If you’re in the Apple ecosystem, this app is a must. Nicely done, dev team! Keep up the great work.

Doesn’t find fruit

I changed to Foodnoms because the myfitnesspal update made the once user-friendly app difficult to navigate. The reviews for Foodnoms were great, however, I can’t find (or maybe figure out) how to find fruit. I tried Cara Cara oranges, raspberries, grapes and other fruits but the results I got were for flavored foods. There were other foods I also couldn’t find so I gave up on this app.

No free version as advertised

Says there is a free version but when setting things up it won’t let u go beyond selecting the free trial which then switches to a subscription after 7 days. Previous review responses says u can “x” this screen for the free one. That’s very suspect as there is no confirmation and I’m not willing to take the chance of it working and not having to deal with support for months for a refund or to end a subscription I knew from the start I did not want. Coding is easy. If there is a free ad-supported version, make this an option on the screen. Either u select the free version with ads OR u select the free trial period which then switches to a subscription if u don’t cancel. It’s not rocket science. Disappointed since I’ve heard good things about the app and was looking forward to trying it. And that is really saying something because I generally despise apps but this one looked like it could really help with some very specific needs.

Inaccurate information

I really liked the layout of this app. It looked simple and easy to navigate, so I went ahead and purchased a year subscription. However, on further use on the first day, I found the food data info(even on listed products) is at almost a -25% inaccuracy (and I see no way to manually adjust this information). Also, even though I logged all my meals yesterday, I got a notification today saying I hadn’t logged anything yesterday. When I looked back on the app it shows all my meals/foods logged yesterday. Due to these issues (especially the caloric/nutritional inaccuracies), I will be canceling my subscription. Sad though because it is a nice looking app.

Wish there were more food options already in place

I know we can enter them ourselves, but because I’ve been purchasing lunch from school and they use “dupe” recipes, it’s hard to find a similar item. There are quite a few recipes already on here, but I also don’t want to enter each ingredient by hand. Kind of prefer MyFitnessPal’s food tracker. Might be switching back to that, soon.

The Absolute Best

I’ve been a Foodnoms user for a few years, having switched after trying some of the other big names. This app leaves them all in the dust. I’ve used this app to lose weight, gain weight, track water, track macros, and help me reach all kinds of health and fitness goals. It doesn’t intrude or get annoying, it just does its job beautifully and painlessly. Foodnoms is built natively by an indie developer, making it the best way to track and log calories, water, and more on any Apple device. From a design standpoint, there’s simply no competition. The user experience is clearly well considered, and the implementation of Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines is so good that you sometimes forget it’s not a first-party app. The clean integrations into Apple Health reinforce that. As someone who uses a smart scale and tracks their exercise with Apple Watch, Foodnoms is an integral part of the way I stay on top of my goals each and every day, and one of the most valuable parts of even owning a phone to me anymore.

This is the best app I’ve ever used. I’ve already lost 6 pounds in four weeks without changing from foods that I like to eat, which keeps me on track. Uninstall- no reason for location permission

Pretty decent app but it h add been slowly adding permissions with updates… why does a calorie app need your location to share with other companies? Forget it. Disappointed, loved it when it was privacy conscious and didn’t need access to everything. (which, again, why does a calorie app need legitimate access to anything besides the calories that you’re eating?)

Rip off

Tells you that you can scan a product for nutritional information but doesn’t find anything you scan, and when you do the information is inaccurate. So I have ended up having to enter it all myself, which is a real kick in the nuts after dropping 39.99 for a year subscription. My health depends on having accurate sodium and sugar levels on the foods I eat, this is super disappointing and makes me want to cancel and delete the app.

Helpful!

I've never kept track of calories and this app was so eye opening as to not only calories, but nutritional data. It can use some improvement in regard to nutritional data accuracy. For example fish has Vitamin D and B12, but their options are saying that it doesn't. Other than entering an entire food entry from scratch, I don't see a way to quickly add that info.

Required Fields Unresponsive

I read a 1-star review where the person complained that the required fields were not working and they were not able to set up the app because of that. I figured it was a fluke because of all the good reviews. Well, it happened to me, too. The only fields I was able to enter info into were my sex and my height. Nothing else worked. The app is unusable to me because of this issue. I’ll check back at a later date and if this bug gets fixed I’ll re-download the app. Fingers crossed.

Just disappointed

I really wanted an app that tracks nutritional data that(especially sugar) that works on Apple Watch to help me stay healthy. I checked out this app and saw that it could track sugar intake, so i set a daily budget. BUT GUESS WHAT? IT IS A PAID FEATURE! Why do we need to pay to track sugar levels. And syncing data with Apple Health is also paid. Don’t tell me to get a free trial, I want to use it for free. Shame on you, i finding other apps that are less greedy and will at least let me track sugar intake for free.

Requires account to use

Requiring an account to use means it’s not free, my personal data is the cost. Shame on the developers for falsely advertising this app. And shame on them for the reply they’ll post falsely claiming you can use it without an account. NO YOU CAN’T. They’ve made the food search so laughably bad it’s impossible to use the app without the barcode scanner… which requires an account which gives them all your personal data. Absolutely despicable.

No more barcode scans without signing in

Updated Oct 9, 2025 The developer responded a few days ago (which should be visible below this review unless they removed it). I’d like to address a few points from their response: 1. “It appears the sign-in prompt is currently showing for all barcode scans, which wasn’t intentional. We’ll be fixing this in the next update” - cool. I’m going to guess that’s at least a few weeks away. 2. “barcode scanning shouldn’t require sign-in unless the item’s data was shared by another Foodnoms user” - are you serious? Because of the bug I obviously hadn’t discovered this yet, and it’s absurd. That was definitely not the case before either. A significant portion of your food database was from other users so this is a major blow. 3. “the nutrition label scanner now requires server processing to work” - so it didn’t require server processing before but now does? It’s possible that’s because they improved it in some way but I doubt it. Seems like just another push to limit the free features. 4. “Please know you can still use Foodnoms entirely offline, with your data stored in iCloud” - I mean, I’m not sure entirely offline was an option as the food database requires at least an internet connection by my understanding, but sure. 5. “only server-powered features require an account” - yes, and that’s the crux. You’re changing what the server-powered features are and reducing functionality. It’s okay, I get it. You need to make money and my minor contributions to your food database aren’t worth anything. Since this has been broken for nearly a month, I’ve gotten out of the habit of using your app. Your response only served to provide additional reasons to stop using the app. Thanks for letting me know so I don’t waste anymore time on your app! I’ll try to restart my habit of tracking my food but it’ll be with another app. Original review: I tried quite a few other apps before trying Foodnoms about 6 months ago. I used it near daily and have a lot of history and custom foods and recipes added. Previous to the iOS 26 update, there were some limitations unless you signed in and paid for the subscription. Now they removed the ability to scan a single barcode without signing in. Guess I’m yet again looking for another app.

Latest UI overhaul has issues

Sep 25, 2025: I appreciate the fast updates to fix some key issues with the new update. New update is good overall. Please add arrows back to the charts view so I can go back and review insights in fixed date increments rather than just swiping precisely for each week/month/etc. Thank you, love the app. Sep 21, 2025: Clean looks doesn’t always mean good functionality if it takes more taps now. Why are insights now buried in the sidebar? This is a core feature that should be on the main page. Why do I have to collapse a meal view (breakfast, lunch, etc.) to view the total macros for that meal? Ridiculous. Guys the whole point of a calorie/nutrients app is have your meal tracking data at a glance. Stop hiding things because “it is cleaner”.

Lost over 30lbs since March 2025

I’ve been using this app everyday and it’s made a huge difference in my ability to lose weight. To be clear I do own 3 food scales that I keep in each of the locations that I tend to eat, so everything is being weighed. But I think Foodnoms does a very good job estimating the calories of a meal through its AI feature when you’re weighing your food. I also think the UI is really clean and easily customizable. But the main reason I use and recommend this app is the privacy policy. I love that I can just pay for a service and not worry that I’m being data mined off it.
