Pay to use?
I was always under the impression I could use DUPR without paying for it. I guess that changed and the app is forcing me to pay $25 annually

in the past, the app worked well enough that i don't recall it crashing all of the time, but today i tried using it, only to have it crash on me immediately. i tried updating the app, but the latest version still crashes immediately when i open it. undoubtedly, the app developers can find my logs in app store connect …
Shady subscription push
The user can’t navigate away from the DUPR+ substation promo. One literally can’t get past the page. No “x”. No “decline”. No “No thanks”. No “Maybe later”. One could accept the subscription and then go into their settings and cancel the subscription. Really?! This is supposed to be the universal rating platform. You would not see the USTA or PGA conducting themselves this way. Other glitches…can’t search for my digital club from the app. Can’t add my members to my digital club even as an administrator. It needs to be much simpler for people to sign up. And, it needs to be something I am not having to apologize to my members for the money grabiness.
Bad business practice
It is extremely disappointing. My card was charged today despite my previous explanation that I was misled into clicking a link to "Reset my DUPR." I accessed that link assuming it provided further information, not that it would trigger an immediate registration and charge. It is a poor business practice to use misleading information to gain clicks without providing users a chance to review potential charges before processing a payment. I feel it is necessary to report this lack of transparency regarding your billing process. I am requesting a full refund as I never intended to register for this program.
Tries to force optional subscription
When I started the app, it put me on a screen to buy a $25 subscription. There were no buttons to exit the screen without saying I wanted to purchase the subscription. This borders on extortion. Research shows this has happened to several other people, as well.
Can’t even login
I can’t even login without paying for a year now. I just want to see how it all works, and check on friends rating I can’t even do that. Just a big blue pay now screen you can’t get past. Just wow
Atrocious
They charge $35 for a rating reset?! Absolutely ridiculous considering their poorly constructed algorithm is the reason why players need a reset. Yuck!
Free without subscription - IYKYK
I was unable to get past the splash screen requirement (on my iPad) to “try” the subscription, with the option to cancel. I was able to get past it by installing the app; I then turned on airplane mode and disabled WiFi before running the app. Once I successfully logged on this way I’ve been safe from the nag screen. I KNOW DUPR requires money to operate, but the way they use the app to monetize is wrong. Hoping they figure out a better funding model as the core idea is great, and statistically sound.
No free version
Can’t download the Free version. The paywall is all you get and no way to remove it. Not interested in paying. Was told -can only view on a desktop. Very frustrating and disappointing. Hopefully someone will develop an alternative app that all the pickleball community can enjoy and interact with.
Worst app I have ever used
Mobile app doesn’t let me login without a subscription. They are doing an aggressive marketing campaign by not letting the user to skip the subscription purchasing step. They are monetizing the game in the worst possible way. I love Pickleball, but I hate what they are doing to the game.

Nothing but problems with this app. Was free when I signed up last year but now wants to charge me $1.99 a month. When I open the app it immediately goes to the login screen but after I sign in it goes to a pay screen with no way of getting out of it to go to the free part of the app. Not impressed.

Broken and Unusable Due to 100% Crash Rate
Would like to use this app, but it crashes every single time I opened it. I’ve never been able to get it to work. Maybe one day they’ll fix it?

NOT FREE
You have to pay before you use anything. To enter many tournaments you have to have a DUPR account but to use the app you have to pay and the website pushes you to the app. Annoying that you can’t easily use a free version of DUPR from the app.
Crashing
If you have used this app for any length of time you have experienced the many bugs and issues. But usually it is still bearable and usable. Not anymore. Ever since the last update I can’t even open the app. Constant crashes everytime I try to open it. If this is going to continue to be the official pickleball rating system of the fastest growing sport in America, then they should step it up and fix these issues so we can at least use the app. Side note: I have a iPhone 15 plus and I know other players who are having similar issues with different phones. Should not be a problem since all are modern up to date operating systems.
Very inaccurate system
Very elementary system that isn’t very accurate at all. Especially in the lower reliability stages. 3.5s can play like 2.8s while 3.0s are closer to 3.7s.
Can’t use it without paying?
Not sure if this normal, but I literally cannot access anything on DUPR’s app because it keeps popping up the subscriptions without giving me an option to “X” out of it. So is there a free option to this platform or not?
Useless
The new update won’t allow you to move past a subscription screen to use the app for any purpose. So if you don’t want to pay to use DUPR then the app is worthless.

The screen keep popping up.i can’t go forward or go back.somebody had the same problem and asked customer service.they said 15% of new customers have the same problem.people said it is a marketing.so stupid.dupr thinks if I can’t go forward I will buy it???they they don’t fix it.the rating supposed to be free!!!!
Better Explanations
I recommend DUPR do a better job at thoroughly explaining HOW and WHEN ratings AND reliabilty scores each get calculated. WANTED: Details, details, details. Examples and scenarios. What happens when 1, 2, 3 or 4 players do not have a rating, they are NR ? What are the top 10 most frequent complaints and how should club Directors handle those? What exactly should they say to thoroughly these complaints. What are all the requirements and steps to take for “self-reporting” match results, where do these show up, what happens after a match result is entered regarding notifications sent to others in the match to validate? I have lots of other specific questions . Where is it said that reliability scores only get calculated/ updated on Tuesdays?

Rating system
This may not even get read but it’s worth a shot lol I would love a system that keeps players playing in tournaments of their own rating. Those with no duprs yet must play 3.0 to start and their dupr begins at 3.0. 3.0-3.4 players must play 3.0 tournaments, 3.5-3.9 players must play 3.5 tournaments. 4.0-4.4 players must play 4.0 and 4.5-4.9 must play 4.5. This would keep players whose duprs are way too low for their skill level, from entering higher tournaments and getting the reward for losing and increasing their dupr while the other team is suffering for winning a match. I would also like to propose a new rating system. For each point gained or lost in a match, that goes towards your dupr score. If you beat a team 11-3, then both players gain .08 points toward their dupr. If they lose the next match 11-0, then they lost .11 from their dupr. The current system where one player is losing .050 points while his teammate is only losing .10 is kind of unfair. Thank you for the time and God bless.

Poor build quality
Worst app ever. Not even able to sign up. Shows there is an error but does not point out where the error is. Get better developers!
Unethical Pop Up
This app tries to trick you into getting a paid DUPR+ account and won’t let you use the app until you do. No one needs a DUPR+ account and very few people actually want one. Fix your app, this is unacceptable.
The Pickleball Standard
DUPR has been very helpful in creating pickleball events that have fair brackets. The app makes it easy to look up players and put in games of my own.
New DUPR Algorithm - BAD
I played a round robin and won 6 of 7 games, my DUPR went down. I win my DUPR goes down, I lose my DUPR really goes down. It makes no sense to me.
Can’t open app anymore without upgrading/paying
I’ve had a DUPR account for over a year. Never had to pay. Tried to open the app today, it kept crashing and closing. Deleted and reinstalled it, logged in, now I can’t get past the pay screen. I don’t need all the extras. I’ll put up with ads, but even after deleting and reinstalling again, the same DUPR+ screen offering options to pay and no option to close and stay with the plain old DUPR. 😠

As soon as I click on the app it exits. Useless since it’s just full of ads when it was working. Deleted the app. Today (Jan 16, 2026) I reinstalled the app but cannot get past the DUPR Plus subscription page. There’s supposed to be a free ad based tier but the splash screen on iOS will not allow me to continue without signing up for a subscription.
Misleading, required suscription to use
This app requires paid subscription at sign up. There is no free version. Misleading app using the subscript annual with free 7-day sign up, which means you have to subscript a monthly or yearly plan to use with 7-day cancellation.

New Feature Request
Great app, but I suggest adding a sign-up validation that prevents participants from scheduling overlapping events. i.e. I sign up for an open play scheduled from 10:00-12:00 and then attempt to sign up for a clinic that is scheduled from 11:00-12:00. That second request, for the clinic, should be rejected because I can’t b e in two places at once. When people schedule overlapping events like this, they often must leave one event early or arrive late due to their attendance in the overlapping event. This is unfair to the participants in the original event because they lose participants needed to fill out the event AND to others who wanted to attend but the event was full. This is an obvious problem at our club and may be at others depending on how things are scheduled.
